As we enter this month of remembrance we do so this year mindful of all that has been lost in recent weeks through natural disasters.
Lives, homes, work, the familiar, so much as been snatched away in the
twinkling of an eye. And we who remain engage the struggle with the
changes that the sudden turn of life invites us to, questioning as we
ponder in our hearts what we may fear the most - is it that life as
known has ended or has changed?
Life is changed not ended
What do we see in each passing in our lives,
What do we know of each second of the new,
What do we greet with welcome's warm embrace,
What presence shun with minds
That hunger for the moments that are passed?
Each moment of our lives brings in a change
Each decision
And every conversation ushers in the new.
But when it comes in imperceptible ways
And brushes by our skin
Changing our hue and view
We know it not and fear it not,
Assimilating and adjusting all the time.
Yet, when the mighty storms of life pass o'er
And batter us with loss
Then how we grieve the new,
And turn away from what lies in our path
A life that's changed not ended;
A road whose map we have not learned to read,
Where our patterns and our road rules may not fit.
This is the future highway paved with anxiety and hope,
Tarred with a compound of excitement and of dread.
And faith offers one adage – do not fear.
For life is changed not ended.
Oh, we can choose to travel on
Or end it here.
