Hymn :Church of God (or other suitable hymn)

Chorus:
Church of God, holy people, sing your praise to God.
God has called you out of darkness into God's marvellous light.

The church is built with living stones, with Christ as cornerstone.
In Him we trust, who makes us one, uniting us in love
We build on the rock of faith in Christ.
Chorus:

May fragrant smoke of incense rise, to fill this house of prayer
May we who gather find true peace, God's presence filling our lives
Our hearts lift with praise, our lips sing in joy.
Chorus:

The light of Christ has come to us, dispelling all our fears
His light reveals the path of life, we follow Him with joy
The glory of God, the light of the world.
Chorus:

Psalms and Readings:

Antiphon 1   Behold, I bring you glad tidings; our God and Saviour is coming

Reading from Isaiah:
The vision of Isaiah, son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In the days to come, the mountain of the temple of the Lord shall tower above the mountains and be lifted higher than the hills. All the nations will stream to it; and they will say: 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths; since the Law will go out from Zion and the oracle of the Lord from Jerusalem' The Lord will wield authority over the nations and adjudicate between many peoples; these will hammer their swords into ploughshares, their spears into sickles. Nations will not lift sword against nation, there will be no more training for war. O House of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!
Repeat Antiphon 1

Antiphon 2    Our God is coming, bringing salvation to all. Let us rejoice.

With joy I heard them say, Let us go to the Lord's house!
And now, Jerusalem, we stand inside your gates.

Jerusalem, the city so built, that city and temple are one.
To you the tribes go up, every tribe of the Lord

It is the law of Israel, to honour God's name
The seats of law are here, the thrones of David's line.

Pray peace for Jerusalem: happiness for your homes,
Safety inside your walls, peace in your great houses.

For love of family and friends I say, 'Peace be with you'
For love of the Lord's own house, I pray for your good.

Glory be... Repeat Antiphon 2

Antiphon 3 God will come, the Holy one of Israel

Refrain: Let us welcome the Lord for he comes And all will see the salvation of our God.

Verse: By God's searching light, we will scatter all our shadows
And heal our hearts of the wounds of sin
Our Saviour and our Lord will give us hope.
Refrain:

Verse: We shall know God's peace at the coming of our Saviour
The world shall be filled with the glory of God
God's faithfulness and love will be revealed.
Refrain:

Verse: Walking in God's light, we sing our song of welcome
The song of the bride, 'Maranatha'
So quickly come, Lord Jesus, Amen.
Refrain:

Repeat Antiphon 3

Gospel: Matt. 24:37 - 44

Homily
or quiet reflection

Magnificat: Magnificat Antiphon: Come, O Lord, quickly come. Come in glory, come in glory, come in glory, quickly come.

Magnificat anima mea Dominum, Et exsultavit spiritus meus, in Deo salutari meo. Quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae, Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me dicent omnes generationes. Quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est, et sanctum nomen ejus. Et misericordia ejus a progenie in progenies, timentibus eum. Fecit potentiam in brachio suo, dispersit superbos mente cordis sui. Deposuit potentes de sede, et exaltavit humiles. Esurientes implevit bonis et divites dimisit inanes. Suscepit Israel puerum suum, recordatus misericordiae suae. Sicut locutus est ad patres nostros, Abraham et semini ejus in saecula. Gloria Patri .

Repeat Magnificat Antiphon

Teach us to rest secure in your presence accompanying us on our journey of life. Inspire us to acknowledge the signs of hope in our world today, especially in the Congregation, and to respond to the invitation to new life along the way. Response

May we, like Dominic, proclaim your message willingly and participate in bringing about your reign in the world. Response

In this season of Hope, when we celebrate new life stirring in the womb, we entrust our earth to you and we pray that we will find new and effective ways of caring for it. Response

You, who are hope of the weary, grant shelter to the homeless whose numbers are increasing daily in our cities. Encourage us to respect and care for them. Response

At this time of war and terror in so many parts of the world, we pray for open and creative dialogue leading to true and lasting peace with justice.
Response

Fulfil the hopes of those who sleep in your peace especially (...) and of our own families. Bring them to the final resurrection when you will be all in all.

Our Father - said by all

Final Prayer

May the waiting God of Advent touch us in our listening hearts.
May the companionship of Christ Jesus nurture us with gentleness and hope.
May the tender mercy of God draw us to receive that compassion we need.
May the witness of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, inspire us to magnify to the world, our own greatness and beauty of soul.
May the Spirit of Jesus be born in us, for others to see the light shining, with the radiance of a love that is humble and real, gracious and overflowing.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Final Blessing:

May God bless us
Cause our earth to prosper
Justice to march before us
And peace to follow our steps.

Amen.
