God is Love. The Holy Spirit is God loving us
(Ideally, this reflection should be read slowly and prayerfully, taking time to absorb the meaning of the words and to respond in quiet prayer. Reread it as often as you find helpful).
Holy Spirit: Gift of God
God is Love. The Holy Spirit is God loving us - always surrounding us, embracing us, cherishing us, keeping us and the whole of creation in existence. The Holy Spirit is always there for us. Whatever we do, wherever we go, s/he is there for us. The Spirit's love is constant; s/he never goes away. It is we who turn our backs on the Spirit. S/he is there for us all the time. In fact the Spirit is within us, closer to us than we are to ourselves. It's hard to take in. The Holy Spirit is called the Gift of God. And God's gift is no less than God's self. Amazing! We celebrate this gift at Pentecost.
Holy Spirit: Companion
The Bible calls the Holy Spirit the Paraclete. This is a Greek word which means 'companion'. The Spirit is there to help us continue the life of Jesus in the world. Jesus started off a kingdom of love, justice and peace and we have to keep it going wherever we find ourselves. This is not always easy but in the Holy Spirit we have the strength and courage we need. The Spirit is always there to help. S/he has gifts for every situation.
Holy Spirit: Friend
After Jesus, Mary is The Holy Spirit's closest friend. If we ask Mary, she will help us get to know God's Spirit and keep us in the full stream of God's giving love.
'Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts'
