January 2006, New Beginning, New Year PDF Print E-mail
It is a new beginning, a new year for a world that has lost its way.
There is a new call for us Dominicans in the Irish Region to bring into being, to create in our hearts and in our homes Communities of the Holy Preaching. We have a model in the little community we read about in the Gospel of the first of January this year, the Feast of Mary the Mother of God, Muire Máthair.

the same time she welcomes with open heart the poorest of her neighbours, the shepherds, into her little community. She includes all of these who have come in answer to the call of angels. She listens attentively to them as they bring the good news of great joy come to all the people. That Good News is that her baby Jesus is The Saviour who is Christ The Lord. Mary ponders their message in her heart. Jesus the centre of this community is the Light shining in the darkness bringing a peace to the community that extends to all the people.

In our struggle to create Communities of Holy Preaching, notwithstanding our past failures, if we with open hearts listen as Mary did to the littlest among us bring the Good News, the Word of God, and if we ponder it in our hearts we will surely find true peace.

Our calling as Dominicans in our new communities is well expressed in Pope Benedict's theme for World Day of Peace on 1 st January 2006; it is In Truth is Peace.
