SNIPPETS OF LIFE IN IGUAPE AND BARRA DO TURVO - BRASIL PDF Print E-mail

On the 1 November, 1994 , Sister Bridget O'Driscoll and I arrived in Iguape, a small town situated 213 kms south of São Paulo , in the diocese of Registro, Brazil.

Pádraigín, you have spent many years on mission in Brazil. How did you come to be here in Iguape?

Towards the end of 2000, we were joined by Liz Smyth.

During these years we have worked on a team with the priests of the parish, have been accompanying the 34 Basic Christian Communities, and have been involved with the people in the various Pastorals of the parish. In January of this year, after her sabbatical, Bridget returned to Brasil, and started in a new parish of Barra do Turvo. Although she is two hours drive from Iguape, we try to meet up on a weekly basis for prayer, recreation and community. Liz returned to Ireland in July, to work in Ballyfermot, and going by the amount of tributes she received from the people, she will be sorely missed, not only by Bridget and myself, but by the people of Iguape.
