After six years in the new mission of Tarija, Bolivia, the Sisters are well integrated into the new culture and Church. People are calling constantly at the house...

many of whom are ex-prisoners who met Alejandra as she visited Moros Blancos daily. Each one has a vital frontier apostolate, Kathleen in Barrio San Jorge near the same prison, Patricia in the rural areas, Virginia and Alejandra with detainees. It was a privilege for me to encounter them in their real life setting, to hear stories, and meet people whose lives have been touched with hope through them.

Sr Brigidda Fahy with Patricia and Virginia. Other community members are Kathleen and Alejandra.

The Bolivian people are deeply religious and comunitarian, strongly attached to their traditional devotions and processions. The new popular method of reading the Bible is introducing them to a new way of living their faith. Their concerns are the same as people everywhere: how to raise their children, how to get their daily bread, how to live their Christian faith in the context of increased migration, acute poverty, social and political instability. The Sisters have made the patient and at times painful effort to understand, to get close, to gain their confidence. One fruit of this effort is a volunteer lawyer from Tarija who is presently on mission in Termas living with the community of Kuska Puris. She was a member of the pastoral team that attends the prison of Moros Blancos.
