(Can be used as grace before meals, or at other suitable time)
8th way of prayer - "Dominic would often find a place to sit, quietly
and, having blessed himself, would open a book and read. He would
appear to be 'listening' intently while reading, as if he meant to say
'I will hear what the Lord has to say to me'. Thus he left his divine
Friend talk to him."
Hymn to St Dominic: Called as Partners in Christ's Service (or any suitable hymn might be chosen)
Called as partners in Christ's service, called to ministries of graceWe respond with deep commitment, fresh new lines of life to trace.May we learn the art of sharing, side by side and friend with friend,Equal partners in our caring to fulfil God's chosen end.
Christ's example, Christ's inspiring, Christ's clear call to work and worth,
Let us follow, never faltering, reconciling folk on earth.
Men and women, richer, poorer, all God's people young and old,
Blending human skills together, precious gifts of God unfold.
Thus new patterns for Christ's mission in a small or global sense,
Help us bear each other's burdens, breaking down each wall or fence.
Words of comfort, words of vision, words of challenge said with care,
Bring new power and strength for action, make us colleagues free and fair.
So God grants us for tomorrow ways to order human life,
That surround each person's sorrow with a calm that conquers strife.
Make us partners in our living, our compassion to increase,
Messengers of faith thus giving hope and confidence and peace.
Psalm 8
Antiphon: Speak, Lord for we are listening to you.
1. Lord, our God, the whole world tells
the greatness of your name.
Your glory reaches
beyond the farthest star.
2. Even the babble of infants
declares your strength,
your power to halt
the enemy and avenger.
3. I see your handiwork
in the heavens
the moon and the stars
you set in place.
4. What is humankind
that you remember them,
the human race
that you care for them?
5 You treat them like gods,
Dressing them in glory and splendor.
You give them charge of the earth
Laying all at their feet.
6. Cattle and sheep,
wild beasts, birds of the sky
fish of the sea,
every swimming creature.
7. Lord, Our God,
the whole world tells
the greatness of your name.
Glory to You, Source of all Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.
Antiphon: Speak, Lord for we are listening to you.
Reading: - from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 10, 13-17
For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved". But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" But not all have obeyed the good news; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
Shared Reflection/Intercessory Prayer for (sisters) absent, sick, going through a difficult time.
Concluding Prayer:
Gracious God, we ask you to bless our celebration today and to give us, as you gave St. Dominic, a humble heart, ardent with love for the salvation of all. We come to you now as he often did, asking you to cleanse us that we may become true preachers of your Word, the Light of the world and Good News of our salvation.
Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
